Community Build Days Are Coming!

Dear Thoreau’s Backyard Community,

If you’ve walked past the school lately, you may have noticed: Thoreau’s Backyard is starting to look a lot more like the space we imagined when this project began.

But we’re not done yet. The last stretch needs people on site, with tools in hand. Over the next several weeks, we’re planning weekend build days to put the finishing touches on the space.

There’s a little something for everyone. We have two large playhouses to build, tables and benches to assemble, a dry riverbed to dig out and fill with stone, and plenty of smaller projects to bring the space to life. We also have many perennials to plant along the pathways, though some of that may need to wait until spring. If you have experience building or planting, great! If not, that’s great too. We’ll find a team and a role that’s right for you.

Exact dates still depend on final word from the school, and we’ll confirm them as soon as we have it. What we need right now is to know whether you’d like to participate and when you’re available, so we can pick the best days and plan accordingly.

Please pass this sign-up along to neighbors, friends, and anyone else who’d enjoy a few hours of outdoor work with good company, helping build a core part of our community.

Warmly,
The Thoreau Playground Committee
